Latimer Hockey has just received a great honor. Our founder Edward Weisbeck will receive the J. Michael Duffett award for his work with youth hockey.
Mike was very involved with youth hockey both at the Nichols School and with the Buffalo Sabres. After his death Scotty Boman and others got together to award people who they felt exemplified Mike’s enthusiasm and love for youth hockey.
The award will be presented between periods of the Sabres game on February 23rd.
For those of you who are not familiar with Ed. He coached in Amherst until he moved to Elma in 1970. Finding no youth hockey program in the Tri Towns he approached the board asking for monetary help to form a youth house league. The town approved his request and he formed the Latimer Tri Town hockey program. He ran the program and coached until, because of health reasons he could no longer skate. He retired in about 2000.
I’ve had the privilege of knowing and working with Ed since 1978.
Coach Tom
